As per Public Law 107-110, the No Child Left Behind Act, Haltom Middle School has adopted the following policy to ensure that the staff coordinates all possible programs to provide quality services to our children and families and to afford parents substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.
Our goal is to maximize opportunities for all parents to participate in ways that will help all children to be successful in the meeting the State’s academic content and academic achievement standards. In addition, we strive to provide opportunities for parents to assist us in maximizing our students’ potential to become successful citizens upon completion of their public school careers.
To reach our goal, the staff and representative parents have drafted the following policy outlining the ways in which parents are encouraged to participate in the life of the school and the ways we will reach out to parents:
1. Haltom Middle School will hold an annual meeting, at a convenient time, to inform parents of the school's participation in Title I, Part A, to explain the requirements associated with Title I funding, and the right of parents to be involved. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend.
2. The campus will develop jointly with, agree on with, and distribute to, parents and families of participating children Haltom Middle School’s written parent and family engagement policy. This policy will be incorporated into the school’s plan for Title I, Part A
3. Parents and families will be provided timely information about campus family engagement programs through a variety of means, including event postings at the front of the school and email flyers. This information will be provided in an understandable format and, to the extent practicable, in a language that parents can understand. We will offer a flexible number of meetings and may provide services to encourage parental involvement.
4. Parents and families will receive a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and student achievement levels on the challenging State academic standards.
5. Parents and families may request regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children. The campus will respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
6. Haltom Middle School staff will assist parents/families in understanding such topics as state academic standards and assessments, how to monitor a child’s progress, and how to work with educators to improve their children’s achievement.
7. The campus will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve achievement.
8. With the assistance of parents, Haltom Middle School will educate teachers, school leaders, and other personnel in the value and utility of parent contributions, and in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, implement and coordinate parent programs, and build ties between parents and the school.
9. Each spring, Haltom Middle School will engage parents in reviewing the content and effectiveness of our family engagement policies and programs. Evaluation information will be collected through parent surveys that gauge levels of family engagement while identifying barriers to parent participation. Based on this input and through a collaborative consultation process, the campus will review the existing family engagement policy and make revisions as necessary.
10. Additionally, parent representatives will be involved in planning, review, and revision of the campus improvement plan each year. If the campus improvement plan is not satisfactory to parents, the campus will submit any parent comments on the plan to the district.
